Spotlight: Al Carr & the ANAM CARA Ensemble
The five artists who performed at ANAM CARA REMIX (SHEBEEN I / PIRATE STATION) had never played together before — most hadn’t even met. But what unfolded was a powerful, improvised collaboration built on trust, rhythm, and instinct. At the heart of it all was Al Carr, an extraordinary djembe player from Chicago — a true inspiration and the binding force of the group. His intuitive direction and deep musicality became the unspoken language that united the ensemble and carried the energy of the performance. We’re honoured to have witnessed this one-time-only musical conversation unfold as part of JAYKOE’s immersive exhibition exploring diaspora, memory, and sonic resistance. Exhibition Details:
